The 2013 ESPYS will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles and hosted by “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm. Best Play is awarded through a bracket-style vote, with the top 16 seeds cut down to the final eight on Monday, July 8. The final four will be revealed a week later on Monday, July 15. Voting will remain open throughout the ESPYS Red Carpet Countdown show and will close as soon as the show begins at 9 p.m. EST.
Matthias’ “Hustle Goal” came during the Panthers’ March 14 game against the Boston Bruins. The Panthers were down early after Boston put up two goals in the first period, but Matthias brought back some momentum in the second period as he raced past Bruins D Dougie Hamilton to the puck, ended up underneath him, and quickly got up to score a shorthanded goal to put the Cats on the board. The Panthers ultimately lost the game 4-2, but Matthias shifted the momentum with his huge play.
Fans are encouraged to visit ESPYS.com to vote now, and also to use the @ESPYS Twitter handle to promote the player you want to see win.
