Stolzenberg pledges to raise $1 million for Boston Marathon victims
SUNRISE, Fla. – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment today announced that 13 year-old Michael Stolzenberg of Weston will be honored as part of the Florida Panthers (@FlaPanthers) ‘Heroes Among Us’ program during the upcoming 2013-14 NHL season.
Stolzenberg was stricken with a bacterial infection when he was eight and doctors were forced to amputate both of his hands and feet. Yet following the Boston Marathon Attacks, he has pledged to raise $1 million for victims.
“This young man defines what the ‘Heroes Among Us’ program is all about,” said Panthers President Michael R. Yormark. (@PanthersYormark) “The entire Panthers organization is extremely proud and inspired by all that Michael has accomplished to date and we are excited to see him achieve his goal.”
After the Boston Marathon Attacks, Michael, along with brother Harris decided to make it their mission to raise $1 million for the victims that are suffering as a result of the attacks. The Stolzenberg brothers created a fun run to help raise money for these victims, which will take place at Pine Crest School on Saturday, July 27.
The ‘Heroes Among Us’ program is a new initiative beginning with the 2013-14 Panthers season. This program gives special recognition to individual heroes in the community who go above and beyond to serve and inspire others, exhibit dedication and selflessness in the community, make a special and significant impact on others, families or the community at large. Forty-one heroes will be chosen throughout the season and will be invited to a 2013-14 Panthers home game where they will receive special recognition and other interactive opportunities.
Fans, members of the community and media are all encouraged to nominate deserving Heroes by submitting their stories to Florida Panthers Foundation Executive Director Andria Nolan at email@example.com or fill out the online “Heroes Among Us” form at: floridapanthers.com/HeroesAmongUs
