SUNRISE, FL – Sunrise Sports & Entertainment announced today that the Florida Panthers and JetBlue Airways are returning to Puerto Rico for the second year in a row to host two days of hockey-themed activities beginning Tuesday, August 13. Last year Panthers Captain Ed Jovanovski headlined the Puerto Rico visit.
This year the visit will feature Panthers defenseman and 2010 No. 3 pick Erik Gudbranson, Cats alumni and broadcasters Randy Moller and Bill Lindsay, Stanley C. Panther, and staff from both the Panthers and JetBlue – the official airline of the Boys & Girls Club of Puerto Rico. The official hotel for the Panthers and JetBlue Hockey Festivities is La Concha – A Renaissance Resort. La Concha will provide hotel accommodations for the entire trip.
On Tuesday, August 13, Gudbranson, Panthers staff and JetBlue will visit San Jorge Children’s Hospital from 10-11am where they will hand out goody bags and visit with the children.
On Wednesday, August 14 the Panthers and JetBlue will conduct a street hockey clinic for more than 100 children between the ages of 5-16 at the Boys & Girls Club Las Margaritas in Santurce. The Panthers will also be donating a package of street hockey equipment to the Boys & Girls Club.
“We are so thrilled to once again have this exciting opportunity to spread the great sport of hockey to the fans, people and kids of Puerto Rico for the second year in a row,” said SSE President Michael Yormark. “Last year’s event was a great success, and thanks to our innovative partnership with JetBlue, we look forward to returning to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico and continuing our efforts towards community outreach by extending our activities to a second day.”
JetBlue, the Official Airline Partner of the BB&T Center and the Florida Panthers, will provide transportation and accommodations for the trip as part of their extensive flight schedule to San Juan.
The Panthers are set to open the 2013-14 season on the road against the Dallas Stars on Oct. 3 with the Cats special “throwback” home opener set for Friday, Oct. 11 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. A special $7 season ticket package is on sale now, but less than 50 are left, so fans are encouraged to take advantage of the deal now by calling 954-835-PUCK or purchasing on FloridaPanthers.com. Tickets for individual games will be on sale later this summer.
