5 Things To Watch: Jan. 16 vs San Jose

Whether you're going to the game or if you can't make it and are catching the game on FOX Sports Florida or 560 WQAM, here are the five things to look for in tonight's matchup against San Jose.

SHARKS (29-12-6) at PANTHERS (18-21-7)
7:30 PM ET; TV: FOX Sports Network; RADIO: 560 AM
Last 10: San Jose 6-4-0; Florida 4-4-2

ON A ROLL: Tuesday night it was stopping one team's streak while improving their own great play. With a 4-2 victory over the Islanders, Florida snapped New York's seven game road winning streak while picking up points in six of their last seven games, including the full two points in four of them (4-1-2). Florida has been hot since hitting the month of December, going 11-6-2 over the month and a half of play to pull within eight points of a playoff spot.

PUCK STOPS WITH TIMMY: He's won a Stanley Cup and is a two-time Vezina Trophy winner and when the Panthers signed him just before the season, they were looking for that high-level goaltender to help lead them on the ice. They've gotten just that as Timmy has allowed two goals or less in eight of his last nine games all while going 6-1-2 over that span and a fantastic .940 save percentage.

KILLER B ACTION: They were put together in late November and after a slow start to gel, the line combo of Finns Sean Bergenheim and Barkov along with Not A Finn Brad Boyes have been swarming the opposition and scoring pretty much nightly to help lead the charge. The trio has recorded 32 points (16-16-32) in the last 15 games.

QUICK START CATS: The Cats scored 32 seconds in and then jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period of play on Tuesday against the Islanders. For Florida it was the start they've been looking for as interim head coach Peter Horachek has stressed stronger play from the opening puck drop. Florida last had three goals in the third period of the season opener in Dallas. It was also the quickest goal to open a game, beating the 1:55 in the home opener against Pittsburgh.

SWARMING SHARKS: San Jose sits pretty in the Western Conference with 64 points, good enough for second in the Pacific and fourth overall. Their 64 points is fifth overall in the entire league. They're led in large part by their captain, Joe Thornton who loves to set up the scoring as his league high 45 helpers can attest to.
