About Last Night: Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 2

ABOUT LAST NIGHT is the morning-after recap of last night’s Florida Panthers game produced by “Hockey Pat” McGrath, a lifelong Cats fan who previously wrote for the Florida Panthers themed blog “TheRatTrick”. It is a followup to Hockey Pat’s hilariously informative gameday article: THE LOWDOWN.

The contents of ABOUT LAST NIGHT and all opinions expressed therein are solely those of Hockey Pat and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Florida Panthers or Sunrise Sports & Entertainment LLC. PANTHERS 4, MAPLE LEAFS 2

The Florida Panthers looked impressive last night in their 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Cats dictated the pace of the game outshooting the Leafs 37-29, and Nick Bjugstad stole the show for the Panthers as the 21-year-old tallied two goals and an assist for his first NHL three-point performance.

Here is what you may have missed from last night:

Wraps on Wraps on Wraps

Bjugstad’s first two points were the results of tasty wrap-arounds. Check ‘em out below:

Me too!!

Yes! Trick Nicky. I love it!

Here is Nick’s third point of the night:

Scoring Race Update

Bjugstad’s three points last night bumped him into the lead for the Panthers scoring race with 38 (16-22-38) on the season. With one game left, the race is still very much undecided as Scottie Upshall, Brad Boyes and Brian Campbell are all within striking distance.

Birthday Boy

They say that nobody likes you when you’re 23 but we might have to make an exception for Brandon Pirri and his lightning-quick shot. Pirri got things started in style last night with his 13th goal of the season, on his 23rd birthday no less!

P.S. This is how we celebrate birthdays in South Florida:

Bju’s The Boss

Bjugstad’s big game netted him a couple of NHL firsts. Last night the 6’6” center recorded his first NHL three-point game, his first NHL two-goal game and his first NHL shorthanded goal. Oh yeah and he also won 76% of his face-offs (13/17).

Bjugstad’s night was made a bit sweeter when his Minnesota Golden Gophers advanced to the NCAA National Championship game with an astonishing shorthanded goal with just .6 seconds left on the clock. Panthers prospect and Bjugstad’s former linemate Kyle Rau set up both of Minnesota’s goals to bump his team-leading point total to 39 (14-25-39).

Don’t Forget About Lu

The focus may have been on the offensive end of things but Lu was impressive as usual coming up with big stops to keep the Leafs down.
