About Last Night: Blue Jackets 3, Panthers 2
Trocheck and Hayes score but the Panthers fall to Blue Jackets in season finale.

ABOUT LAST NIGHT is the morning-after recap of last night’s Florida Panthers game produced by “Hockey Pat” McGrath, a lifelong Cats fan who previously wrote for the Florida Panthers themed blog “TheRatTrick”. It is a followup to Hockey Pat’s hilariously informative gameday article: THE LOWDOWN.

The contents of ABOUT LAST NIGHT and all opinions expressed therein are solely those of Hockey Pat and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Florida Panthers or Sunrise Sports & Entertainment LLC. Having said that, if you find yourself laughing or smiling as you read ABOUT LAST NIGHT, feel free to thank us. We accept thank you notes, tweets and ticket purchases.

BLUE JACKETS 3, PANTHERS 2

The Florida Panthers brought their 2013-14 regular season to a close with a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Cats received goals from Vincent Trocheck and Jimmy Hayes while Roberto Luongo made 35 saves in a tight contest against the playoff bound Blue Jackets.

Here is what you may have missed from last night:

In It to Vin It

Vincent Trocheck went out in style scoring a shorthanded goal in the first period. The goal was Trocheck’s fifth in 20 games since joining the Panthers as a late-season call-up.

Vinny T was also ‘turnt up’ at the face-off dot as the 20-year old won 92% of his draws (11/12).

So Long For Now!

Just like that, the Panthers season is over. It was a year filled with ups, downs and in-betweens and while it is sad to see everybody go, a new season filled with Panthers hockey will be here before you know it.

I Hate Goodbyes!

Quick Release

Jimmy Hayes scored his 11th of the season 6:35 into the second period. Hayes slotted the puck past Sergei Bobrovsky thanks to a deceptive little wrist shot that leapt right off his stick and into the back of the net.

End-of-the-Year Stats

Brian Campbell led the Cats in games played, playing in all 82 this season. It is his fifth time playing in all 82 regular season games…. well actually his fourth. Due to a mid-season trade during the 2007-08 season, Campbell actually played in 83 games between the Sabres and Sharks).

In his rookie season, 21-year-old Nick Bjugstad led the Panthers in scoring with 38 points (16-22-38) in 76 games.

Brad Boyes led the team in goals with 21 while Campbell led the team in assists with 30.

What’s Next?

The season may be over but things won’t slow down too much for the Florida Panthers. First up on the calendar is the NHL Draft Lottery on Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. followed by the draft itself on June 27-28 in Philadelphia.
