D MacKenzie Weegar Agrees To Entry-Level Contract With Panthers
Memorial Cup winner finished fourth among QMJHL blueliners in scoring in 2013-14.

SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has agreed to an entry-level contract with D MacKenzie Weegar.
“We are pleased to have reached a contract agreement with MacKenzie,” said Tallon. “He is a young and mobile defenseman with an offensive upside, who will continue to grow and develop at the professional level.”
Weegar, 20, played in 61 regular season games for the Halifax Mooseheads this season (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League), ranking fourth among QMJHL defensemen with 59 points (12-47-59). He helped Halifax reach the QMJHL semifinals, falling to the eventual champion Val-d’Or Foreurs, while recording 22 points (5-17-22) in the postseason. During the 2012-2013 season, Weegar won the Memorial Cup with Halifax while posting 44 points (8-36-44).
The Ottawa, ON native attended 2013 training camp with Florida and appeared in one preseason contest against Nashville on Sept. 16, recording an assist. Weegar was drafted by Florida in the seventh round (206th overall) in the 2013 NHL Draft.
