PANTHERS HOCKEY OPERATIONS
 

RANDY SEXTON

General Manager

Randy Sexton enters his first year as General Manager of the Florida Panthers after being appointed the position on October 2, 2009.

Sexton, 50, has led the Panthers hockey operations efforts since Jacques Martin’s departure on June 10, 2009. In this role, he has overseen all contract negotiations, pro and amateur scouting, player development and all hockey administration matters. Since joining the organization in January 2007, he has been instrumental in re-signing the club’s restricted free agents such as Bryan Allen, Keith Ballard, David Booth, Nathan Horton, Rostislav Olesz and Stephen Weiss – all to long term contracts. Sexton also has played the leading role in acquiring players through trades and free agency such as Scott Clemmensen, Radek Dvorak, Jordan Leopold, Bryan McCabe, Steve Reinprecht, Dennis Seidenberg, Cory Stillman and Tomas Vokoun.
 
Sexton spent eight years (1988-1996) with the Ottawa Senators organization serving as the club’s president, chief executive officer and general manager. During his tenure the Senators achieved enormous success and profitability in all areas of hockey and business operations and laid the foundation upon which the Senators' future success was built.
 
Prior to joining the Panthers organization, Sexton spent three years as the Executive Director of Capital Sports Management Inc. (CSMI), a sister company to the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. While with CSMI, Sexton provided strategic analysis and advice to the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club.
 
Born in Brockville, Ontario on July 24, 1959, Sexton completed his post-secondary education at St. Lawrence University, playing for the varsity hockey team from 1978-1982. From 1983-1985 he served as an assistant coach with St. Lawrence, while also handling scouting and recruiting responsibilities. He also earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Clarkson University.

Sexton and his wife Jo-Ann have three sons Michael, Ben and Patrick.
 

JACK BIRCH

Director Of Player Personnel/Pro Scout

Jack Birch enters his fifth season with the Florida Panthers organization and his first year as the club’s director of player personnel/pro scout. He is responsible for overseeing the hockey operations for the Panthers American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester, as well as scouting NHL players.

Since joining the organization in 2004, Birch has served the club in several capacities that included both pro scout (2007-08) and director of hockey operations (2004-07). Prior to joining the Panthers organization, he served as president of J.B. Scouting Service. His worldwide scouting service specialized in the evaluation and rankings of players at the professional and amateur levels throughout North America and Europe.

The Peterborough, Ontario native began his career in the National Hockey League when he served as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers from 1985-87. Birch joined the NHL Central Scouting Bureau in 1989 as a scouting consultant to the director of CSB and several NHL teams, and developed a computerized scouting program for the selection of professional hockey players. He spent three years with the CSB before joining the Canucks organization.

Birch and his wife Michele reside in Boca Raton. He has two children, Joanna and Braden.
 

SCOTT LUCE

Director Of Amateur Scouting

Scott Luce enters his seventh year with the Panthers, after joining the club's scouting staff on July 11, 2002.

Prior to joining the Panthers, Luce spent three years in Tampa Bay, working as a full-time scout based out of Ontario. Before joining the Lightning, Luce worked in Ottawa during the 1998-99 season as a part-time scout in the Minnesota region. Prior to joining the Senators, the London, Ontario native spent five years as vice president of sales for Branches Hockey Sticks. The son of Philadelphia Flyers Director of Player Development Don Luce, Scott graduated from the University of Guelph (Ontario) in 1992 with a degree in history.

Luce has been responsible for the Panthers drafting notable players such as Nathan Horton, Rostislav Olesz and David Booth. 

Raised in Buffalo, New York, Luce played collegiate hockey at Colgate University and junior hockey with the Guelph Platers.

He and his wife, Ann Marie, have two sons, Harrison and Griffin. The family resides in St. Thomas, Ontario.
 

BILL O'FLAHERTY

Director Of Pro Scouting

Bill O’Flaherty enters his second season as Panthers director of pro scouting.  Prior to joining the Panthers, O’Flaherty, spent the 2006-07 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a professional scout. Prior to the Penguins, O’Flaherty served as the Director of Player Personnel for the Los Angeles Kings from 1997-2006.

A Toronto, Ontario native, O’Flaherty graduated from Clarkson University in 1971 and immediately began working in the school’s athletic department. He spent 11 seasons as the school’s Athletic Director (1986-97) and served as the Golden Knights head coach for six seasons, posting a 134-59-12 record. O’Flaherty was awarded the Spencer R. Penrose Memorial Trophy as the University Division I Coach of the Year in 1981.

Bill and his wife Patricia live in Potsdam, New York and have two daughters Shannon and Katharine.
 

MURRAY CAWKER

Manager Of Hockey Administration

Murray Cawker enters his second season as the club’s manager of hockey administration for the Florida Panthers. Cawker works closely with Assistant General Manager Randy Sexton in assisting with the daily operations for the club.

Upon graduating from St. Lawrence University, Cawker spent one year in the Philadelphia Flyers minor league organization before deciding to pursue a career in sales. He has spent 25 years working in sales and sales management in both Toronto and Calgary.

Cawker won the 1975 Pro Lacrosse League Championship as a member of the Quebec City Caribou. Three years later, he represented his country, Canada, and won the 1978 World Tournament Field Lacrosse Championship in London.

Cawker resides in Pompano Beach.
 

MICHAEL DIXON

Team Services Manager

Michael Dixon enters his second season as the club's manager of team services.

His responsibilities include traveling with the club and scheduling all team travel such as air and bus transportation, hotels, meals and practice ice.  He also is responsible for planning and scheduling the annual rookie camp tournament, training camp, and also assists visiting teams with their travel and practice needs. 
 
Prior to joining the Panthers, Dixon worked in the financial services industry in Canada for three years.  A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario in Canada, Dixon graduated in April 2007 with his MBA in Sport Management at Florida Atlantic University.  He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University, and has a Canadian Investment Manager certification from the Canadian Securities Institute. 

Dixon resides in Fort Lauderdale.
 

GISELLE SEOANE

Executive Assistant To The General Manager

Giselle Seoane enters her fourth season as executive assistant to the  General Manager.  As executive assistant, her duties include assisting the general manager with the execution of player contracts and player trades, providing administrative support for the daily tasks of the hockey operations department and coordinating the Club’s participation in the NHL’s annual Entry Draft.  She also provides support to the scouting staff and oversees the players’ wives and family room during home games.

Seoane joined the Club in February of 1999 and has held positions within several departments, including communications, suite sales and service and building operations.

A Florida native, Seoane resides in Coral Springs, Florida.
 

CHRIS SCOPPETTO

HEad Equipment Manager

Chris Scoppetto begins his first season at the club’s head equipment manager.

Prior to joining the Panthers, Scoppetto spent three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings serving as the team’s assistant equipment manager, earning a Stanley Cup ring with the Wings last year. The Hamden, CT native spent six seasons on the equipment staff of the Nashville Predators and two seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Scoppetto attended Arizona State University and graduated with a degree in exercise science. He and his wife, Trekka, reside in Fort Lauderdale.
 

CHRIS MOODY

Assistant Equipment Manager

Chris Moody begins his fourth season as the club's assistant equipment manager.

He began his career with the Colorado Avalanche in 1997, serving as the Avalanche's assistant equipment manager for three years. Moody joined the Nashville Predators in 1999 where he spent four seasons working in a similar role. Moody has been a member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) since 2003.

For the last two years, Moody has played an important role in organizing and participating in 24 hours of hockey, a charitable event that benefits the Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO. For more information on the event visit www.24hoursofhockey.com.

Moody is originally from Winnipeg, Canada, but moved to Denver where he spends time during the off-season.  

Moody resides in Fort Lauderdale.
 

JASON MacDONALD

Assistant Equipment Manager

Jason MacDonald enters his first season as the club’s assistant equipment manager.

MacDonald, joins the Panthers after spending the last three seasons as the head equipment manager of the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. Prior to his three seasons spent in Southwest Florida, MacDonald worked in the Central Hockey League with the Fort Worth Brahmas during the 2005-06 campaign.  From 2001-05, Jason worked as an assistant equipment manager for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
 

DAVE ZENOBI, MS, ATC

Head Athletic Trainer

Dave Zenobi enters his third season with the Florida Panthers, after joining the team in October 2006. He joined the team as assistant athletic trainer, but assumed the head athletic training duties mid-way through the 2007-08 season.

Before joining the Panthers, Zenobi spent five years as the head athletic trainer with the San Jose Sharks AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Barons. Prior to the Barons, Zenobi got his start in hockey by spending seven seasons as the head athletic trainer for the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the IHL.

Zenobi graduated in 1990 from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio where he played football for the most successful NCAA Division-III football program. He graduated from the University of Massachussetts in 1992 with a Masters degree in Exercise Science. Zenobi began his professional career by spending two years at the Cleveland Clinic working in the Physical Therapy Department.

Zenobi and his wife Dawn live in Parkland with their two sons Domenic and Joey.
 

STEVE DISCHIAVI

Assistant Athletic Trainer & Physical Therapist

Steve Dischiavi enters his fourth season as the Florida Panthers physical therapist.  He has a Florida license in athletic training and will also serve this year as the team’s assistant athletic trainer.

Dischiavi earned his Masters of Professional Study in Physical Therapy at the Health Science Center at Syracuse.  Dischiavi has also received his certification in Manual Physical Therapy from the Ola Grimsby Institute, which is a Norwegian based philosophy.  Fulfilling his passion to teach, Dischiavi finds time to serve as an adjunct instructor at Nova SouthEastern University in the Physical Therapy program.  

Dischiavi resides in Fort Lauderdale.
