2009 - Jacques Martin accepts the head coaching position with the Montreal Canadiens. Alternate Governor Bill Torrey is selected to lead the search for the club's new General Manager.

1996 - The Panthers go on the road and defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-1, in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to win the Prince of Wales Trophy as champions of the conference. They fly to Colorado after the game to begin preparations for the Stanley Cup Finals.

2003 - Steve Ludzik becomes the second head coach of the Panthers' AHL affiliate in San Antonio. Ludzik replaces John Torchetti, who moved up to become one of Florida's assistant coaches during the 2002-03 season.

2005 - The Office Depot Center, Florida Panthers and incredible ICE announce the formation of Sunrise Sports & Entertainment (SSE). SSE serves as an umbrella for all of its operating entities: the Office Depot Center, Florida Panthers, incredible ICE, the Sinatra Theatre, SSE Publications, SSE Strategic Partnerships and SSE Business Development.

1995 - The Carolina Monarchs are named as the Panthers' top minor league affiliate, while Florida retains its affiliation with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the IHL.

1995 - Roger Neilson is relieved of his head coaching duties. Neilson was the Panthers' first-ever head coach, and in two seasons, posted a record of 53-56-23, for a winning percentage of .489.

1995 - The Panthers sign defenseman Ed Jovanovski, the first player selected overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, to a multi-year contract.

1996 - The Panthers and Colorado Avalanche play one of the classic games in Stanley Cup Finals history. The match remains scoreless until Colorado’s Uwe Krupp connects at 4:31 of the third OT period to give the Avalanche the victory and its first-ever Stanley Cup title.

1996 - A capacity crowd fills Miami Arena to thank the Panthers for a wonderful season. The highlight of the evening occurs when Ed Jovanovski and Rhett Warrener dump a bucket of water over the head of coach Doug MacLean.

2008 - The Panthers officially announce Peter DeBoer as the franchise's 10th head coach in team history.

1998 - The Florida Panthers and Miami Matadors (ECHL) agree on an affiliation relationship.

2008 - The Panthers announce they have agreed to a full affiliation with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. For the past three seasons, Florida had split its affiliation with Buffalo.

2008 - Florida acquires defenseman Keith Ballard and Nick Boynton as well as a second round pick (Colby Robak) from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for the Panthers Olli Jokinen.

2007 - The Panthers ink Nathan Horton to the longest contract, at the time, in franchise history, signing him to a six-year deal..

1998 - Terry Murray is named the fourth coach in Panthers history.

1997 - The Panthers select 10 players at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their top choice (20th overall) is left wing/center Mike Brown.

2007 - Florida pulls off a blockbuster trade at the NHL Entry Draft, acquiring G Tomas Vokoun from Nashville in exchange for three draft picks. Florida also selects D Keaton Ellerby with the 10th overall pick at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

2002 - The Panthers trade the No. 1 pick and still select top-ranked prospect Jay Bouwmeester with the third overall selection in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft in Toronto. The Cats also get the right to trade first-round picks with Columbus in 2003. Florida also selects Petr Taticek with the ninth overall selection, and grabs Rob Globke and Gregory Campbell in the second and third rounds, respectively. Florida finishes the 2002 Entry Draft with six selections on Day Two.

1996 - The Panthers select nine players, including Marcus Nilsson with the 20th pick of the first round, in the NHL Entry Draft in St. Louis, MO.

2006 - In possibly the largest trade in Panthers history, the Cats send G Roberto Luongo and D Lukas Krajicek to Vancouver in exchange for RW Todd Bertuzzi, G Alex Auld and D Bryan Allen.

2006 - The Panthers select Michael Frolik with the 10th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

2001 - The 2001 NHL Entry Draft concludes at the Office Depot Center. A total of 9,623 fans attend the event - the most ever for a U.S.-based Draft. The Panthers draft 12 players in all. The Panthers also announce that Paul Baxter has been named assistant coach.

2000 - Cats acquire Goaltender Roberto Luongo and Center Olli Jokinen from the New York Islanders, in exchange for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha. The trade is the talk of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft in Calgary, Alberta. The Panthers make Russian defenseman Vladimir Sapozhnikov their first selection (58th overall) at the draft.

1999 - Longtime Panther Defenseman Gord Murphy is selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL Expansion Draft. The Panthers also make a deal with Atlanta, sending Johan Garpenlov, Herbert Vasiljevs, Daniel Tarnqvist and a 1999 sixth-round draft choice to the Thrashers for goaltender Trevor Kidd.

2006 - Florida drafts Russian defenseman Dmitry Kulikov with their first-round pick (#14 overall) at the 2009 NHL Entry draft, held in Montreal.

2004 - The Florida Panthers select center Rostislav Olesz from the Czech Republic with the seventh overall pick of 2004 Entry Draft.

1999 - The Panthers select 18-year-old right wing Denis Shvidki as their first selection (12th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, in Boston. The Kharkov, Ukraine, native had just completed a 94-point season with Barrie (OHL).

2009 - Florida trades former first-round pick Jay Bouwmeester to Calgary for defenseman Jordan Leopold and a third-round pick in the 2009 draft. The Panthers then use that pick (#67 overall) on speedy winger Josh Birkholz from the US-18 program.

1998 - The Panthers select nine players at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, NY. Their top choice (30th overall) is defenseman Kyle Rossiter.
