Panthers-Oilers Preview

GAME: Florida Panthers (14-18-10-2) at Edmonton Oilers (16-19-7-1).

TIME: Tuesday, 9 p.m. EST.

After completing a six-game road trip, the Edmonton Oilers try to snap a five-game winless streak at home when they meet the Florida Panthers.

Edmonton began its trip with consecutive wins over the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks, but went on to lose three of the next four. The Oilers fell 1-0 to the Washington Capitals in the finale of the trip on Sunday.

"We're fighting to get back into playoff position and these are the ones you can't let slip away," Edmonton left wing Mike York said.

The Oilers, owners of the league's worst power-play unit, were 0-for-6 with the man advantage Sunday and twice wasted two-man advantages.

"I think everybody's kind of in the same boat, whether it's not getting shots through, or not getting shots at the net," York said. "I think we've pretty much critiqued it every way possible. It's just not going in."

The Oilers now return to Rexall Place, where they are 0-3-2 since a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 6. Edmonton is 1-6-2 in its last nine games on home ice.

Florida began its four-game road trip Thursday with a 4-3 win in overtime against the Philadelphia Flyers before falling 4-2 to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The Panthers rebounded to tie the Vancouver Canucks 2-2 on Sunday.

Valeri Bure scored both goals for the Panthers, who blew a third-period lead for the second straight night.

"It's frustrating in a way, we go into the third period leading, but on the other hand we're playing pretty good hockey clubs," Bure said. "To get a 2-0 lead after two periods is significant for our hockey club. We have to learn to shut it down and be more relaxed in the third and just maybe get the puck out with easier plays."

Florida is winless in four visits to Edmonton (0-3-1) since a 3-2 win on Jan. 5, 1996.
