UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Miroslav Satan has a knack of getting shootouts going in the right direction for the New York Islanders.

Satan and Viktor Kozlov scored in the tiebreaker as the Islanders completed a rally and beat the Florida Panthers 5-4 on Saturday night.

"I like going first," Satan said of his kickoff spot in shootouts. "I look for what's wide open when I'm moving in."

Ville Peltonen and Rostislav Olesz both missed against Rick DiPietro, enabling the Islanders to earn their 15th win of the season (15-11-3).

Satan had a goal in regulation, as did Andy Hilbert, Arron Asham and Radek Martinek. DiPietro made 28 saves, seven in overtime - including five during a Florida power play. The win snapped a two-game losing streak at home.

"We lost a point in the overtime," Florida coach Jacques Martin said. We had the power play, and we didn't score. That's where we should have won the game."

Nathan Horton, Gary Roberts, Stephen Weiss and Ruslan Salei scored for the Panthers, who have earned points in three straight games (2-0-1). Alex Auld stopped 31 shots.

"Five of six points in the last three games is good, but we should have had two tonight," Panthers captain Olli Jokinen said. "We had a lead in the third, and we had that power play in overtime, and we didn't capitalize on our chances."

The Islanders won for the first time this season after trailing through two periods (1-10).

Hilbert scored 90 seconds in to give New York a 1-0 lead. His wraparound backhander sneaked under Auld, but video review was needed to determine the position of the net, which rocked up but not off its moorings.

Hilbert scored against the Panthers earlier this season, but it didn't count in his stats since it was the deciding tally in the 10th round of a shootout on Oct. 28.

Asham made it 2-0 for the Islanders at 9:16, as he grabbed the rebound of Mike Sillinger's shot and wristed it past Auld. It was Asham's fifth goal and third in four games.

Florida got back in the game at 17:56 when Horton blasted a shot over DiPietro's glove while the Panthers were on their first power play.

The Islanders had four minutes of power-play time, including 91 seconds of a two-man advantage, but never got a shot on net. The Panthers capitalized by scoring twice in a 24-second span just 23 seconds after killing the penalties.

Roberts tied it 2-2 at 17:26 after wristing a drop pass from Horton past DiPietro.

At 17:50, Weiss took a shot from the right dot that deflected into the net off an Islanders player.

"We killed all that time and got those two quick ones right after that," Weiss said. "We have to be better than this, though, when we have a third period lead. We need to have those two points in the bag."

Martinek made it 3-3 at 4:47 of the final period. He picked off a Florida clearing attempt at the blue line, faked a slap shot, skated down to the right circle and beat Auld with a wrist shot.

"Marty did a great job of holding onto the puck" DiPietro said. "He took his time, and his patience paid off."

Satan gave New York a 4-3 lead with 1:50 left in regulation when he put a loose puck into the open left side.

"There were a lot of bodies out there," Satan said. "I was just kind of hanging around, and the puck came right to me. It was an easy goal."

The Panthers pulled Auld and tied the game with 42.5 seconds left when Salei intercepted a clearing attempt and got a high shot past DiPietro, who was scrambling to get back in front of the net.

It was DiPietro who turned over the clearing attempt.

"I should have left it behind the net," DiPietro said. "I'm going to have nightmares about that one, but at least we got the two points."

The Islanders had one chance late in overtime, but Jason Blake's break-in try went wide of Auld.

Notes: The Islanders have the worst penalty-killing unit at home (20-for-87, 77 percent), while Florida is third overall in power-play percentage (29-for-136, 21.3 percent). Florida is 0-7-2 on Saturdays. The Panthers' only other point came on their last visit to Long Island, a 4-3 shootout loss on Oct. 28.
