PANTHERS (5-6-0) at HURRICANES (6-7-0)

TV -- FS-F (HD)

Last 10 --
Florida 5-5-0; Carolina 4-6-0

Season series --
The teams take their Southeast Division rivalry north to RBC Center 24 hours after the Panthers beat the Hurricanes 7-4 at Florida's Bank Atlantic Center.

Big Story --
The Panthers broke out the offense in a big way, reaching their high for goals in a game this season, and the most since they scored seven against Philadelphia on March 3 of last season. Can the Hurricanes regroup? They went from scoring seven goals Wednesday against the Islanders last Wednesday to giving up seven Friday.

Team Scope:

Panthers --
Stephen Weiss might be the happiest man in South Florida right now. He had missed a game against the Canadiens last Saturday after injuring his ankle playing soccer, and then had to miss a day of practice having dental surgery to repair damage caused last month when he took a puck in the mouth. The surgery cost him a couple teeth and left him with a swollen mouth. And he entered Friday's game with just 1 goal and a minus-5 rating in his first nine games.

Friday, however, he broke out in a big way, scoring a pair of goals, adding an assist and posting a plus-3 rating. It was his first multi-goal game since he had a hat trick Dec. 2, 2009 against the Avalanche.

Hurricanes --
Despite being outshot 19-12 in the first period, the Canes and Panthers were tied 3-3 after 20 minutes Friday. Over the final two periods, however, Carolina was outshot 31-19 and wasted two power-play opportunities, including what could have been a two-minute 5-on-3 advantage which was cut short 20 seconds early when Anton Babchuk took a penalty.

The end result was the Hurricanes' worst loss in more than a year, when they lost to the Bruins, 7-2, on Oct. 3, 2009.

Who's Hot --
Panthers defenseman Bryan Allen has a goal and 3 assists in his last two games, after going without a point in his first nine games. … Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason scored his first goal of the season midway through the first period of Friday's game. The goal briefly gave the Canes a 2-1 lead and snapped a 47-game goal drought that dates back to Dec. 11, 2009.

Injury Report -- Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen did not play Friday due to an upper-body injury suffered Monday against Philadelphia, and he remains questionable for Saturday's rematch. … Panthers defenseman Jason Garrison missed Friday's game with a groin injury. Forward Cory Stillman injured his shoulder in the third period of Friday's game and is doubtful for Saturday.

Stat Pack -- The Panthers' 50 shots Friday marked the first time in franchise history the team has posted back-to-back 50-shot efforts. Florida had 55 shots in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Thrashers.

Puck Drop --
Both teams traveled north to Raleigh on Friday night, but only one went with a smile.

"The first win in a home-and-home is obviously very important," Panthers forward Chris Higgins, who scored the game-winning goal late in the second period Friday, told the Miami Herald. "We have to keep it going, stay positive. Ten goals (the last two games) isn't too bad. We're playing an up-tempo style, putting pucks toward the net, funneling things to the net."
