Jets look to avenge loss to Panthers
Winnipeg Jets vs. Florida Panthers

JETS (11-11-1) at PANTHERS (7-12-5)

TV: TSN-JETS; FS-Florida

Last 10: Winnipeg 6-4-0; Florida 3-6-1

Season series: It's the fourth of five meetings this season, and the second in four days. The Jets are back at BB&T Center after losing 4-1 to the Panthers on Tuesday night. Florida has won two of the three games this season, with both wins at home.

Big story: Both teams are playing their third game in four nights, but they're coming into this one off vastly different outcomes. The Panthers are back home after being demolished 7-1 in Washington, while the Jets bounced back from their loss on Tuesday to win 2-1 at Tampa Bay.

Team Scope:

Jets: Winnipeg came into Thursday's game against the Lightning at the bottom of the penalty-killing rankings. But the Jets' PK unit had one of its best nights of the season, holding the powerful Lightning scoreless in five power plays, including a 5-on-3 for 2:00 in the second period.

"For us the turning point of the game was the 5-on-3, for a full two minutes," coach Claude Noel said. "It's really hard to see if you can get out of that. It was a key kill, guys made big sacrifices, didn't give them many shots or good looks so it was good."

One of those people was backup goaltender Al Montoya, who made 28 saves to win for the third time in four starts this season.

"He looked comfortable and he could really see the puck," Noel said. "He was good all night for me."

Panthers: There are no more trips to Washington on Florida's schedule this season -- and the Panthers have to be relieved. They were torched in the nation's capital on Thursday night, allowing four goals in the first period. Rookie goaltender Jacob Markstrom faced two shots, didn't stop either one and was pulled 3:10 into the game. Only a third-period goal by Jack Skille prevented a shutout.

"I don't like to hang out anybody to dry, but obviously I don't think Jacob Markstrom was ready to play tonight," coach Kevin Dineen said.

Who's hot: Jets captain Andrew Ladd assisted on Brian Little's game-winner on Thursday and has five points in his past four games. … Florida's Jonathan Huberdeau has three goals in his last three games and leads all rookies with 11.

Injury report: The Jets are without defensemen Tobias Enstrom (shoulder) and Zach Redmond (lacerated leg), as well as forward Anthony Peluso (hand). … The Panthers have been riddled with injuries. Center Stephen Weiss will miss the rest of the season with a wrist injury that requires surgery. He's one of eight Panthers on injured reserve, along with here are eight Panthers on injured reserve: goaltender Jose Theodore (groin), Kris Versteeg (chest) and Scottie Upshall (lower body), and defensemen Ed Jovanovski (knee), Mike Weaver (lower body), Michael Caruso (wrist) and Dmitry Kulikov (hand). Forward Sean Bergenheim (groin) hasn't played this season and may not be ready until the fall.
