Kings continue trip by visiting Panthers
Los Angeles Kings vs. Florida Panthers

KINGS (3-2-0) at PANTHERS (2-3-0)

TV: FS-W, FS-F

Season series: The Los Angeles Kings and Florida Panthers get together for the first time since Feb. 9, 2012, when Florida won 3-1 at BB&T Center to end a seven-game losing streak against L.A. The teams don't see each other again until the Panthers visit Staples Center on March 22.

Big story: Neither team has shown much consistency this season, though each is coming off a victory on Friday night. The Kings opened a road trip by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 in a shootout. The Panthers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 in their home opener to end a three-game losing streak.

Team Scope:

Kings: Los Angeles and Carolina went more than 53 minutes without scoring, exchanged goals in a 40-second span and didn't produce any more scoring until Jeff Carter's backhander past Cam Ward won the shootout. The Kings have yet to win a game in regulation; they've won once in overtime and twice in the tiebreaker. But they had the better of play for most of the night in Carolina, outshooting the Hurricanes 37-28.

"I think we played a great game," goaltender Jonathan Quick told the Kings' website Saturday. "We had a lot of good chances. Their goalie played really well for them."

Panthers: Florida delighted the packed house that turned out for its home opener by routing the Penguins as Brad Boyes scored twice and Tomas Fleischmann had a goal and three assists.

A night after he was pulled for conceded four goals on 17 shots to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Jacob Markstrom made 36 saves for his first win of the year.

"It's a really good feeling," Markstrom said. "Even last night I felt good and I felt like me and the team, we didn't get out what we wanted to get out. It was a tough one, but the best thing about this League is we have to wait about 20 hours, then we've got a new game. It was really good for us that we had this home opener; the home crowd really pushed us. It was a really good first game at home."

Who's hot: Quick has stopped all five shots he's faced in L.A.'s two shootout wins. Carter leads the team with four goals in five games and has scored on both of his shootout attempts. … Rookie Aleksander Barkov, the second player taken in the 2013 NHL Draft, scored his second goal on Friday and has five points in his first five games. Boyes has four goals in Florida's past three games.

Injury report: The Kings report no injuries. … Florida goaltender Tim Thomas (groin) is questionable for this game. In addition, forwards Sean Bergenheim (groin), Nick Bjugstad (concussion) and Steve Pinizzotto (hip) and defenseman Ed Jovanovski (hip) haven't played this season.
