EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Raffi Torres and Ryan Smyth gave the Edmonton Oilers' power play a big lift -- at the Florida Panthers' expense.

Torres and Smyth scored with the man advantage to lead the Oilers to a 4-2 victory over Florida on Tuesday night.

"The power play has been struggling and it's good to see that we got a couple tonight," Torres said. "Hopefully, the fans will lay off a little bit."

Three minutes into a four-minute advantage during the second period, Torres got to the net and banged a loose puck past Roberto Luongo. Smyth scored 22 seconds into the third, tipping Eric Brewer's point shot past Luongo.

The power-play goals were Edmonton's first in eight games since a 2-1 home loss to Calgary on Dec. 28.

"I don't even remember the last time we scored a power-play goal," defenseman Eric Brewer said. "It's nice to get a couple tonight."

Cory Cross and Fernando Pisani also scored in Edmonton's first win at Rexall Place since a 4-3 decision over Pittsburgh on Dec. 6. Adam Oates and Shawn Horcoff added two assists each.

Mike Van Ryn and Valeri Bure scored for Florida, which was outshot 28-16. Edmonton goalie Tommy Salo faced just one shot in the first period, while Luongo was peppered with 16.

"We weren't prepared and that's the coach's fault, to be honest," Panthers coach Rick Dudley said. "We were awful in the first period. We took some penalties, which obviously put us back, but we were just awful in the first period.

"I mean, we're playing for a playoff spot and that should be motivation enough to come out and play hard. Tonight, we didn't do it, starting with myself, all the way down to the last guy in this locker room. We didn't deserve any points in this one."

Edmonton scored a rare first goal at 8:32 of the opening period on Cross's sixth of the season. Oates won a draw to the right of Luongo and Cross unleashed a high slap shot.

Shortly after the opening goal, tempers flared with Edmonton already on a power-play. Florida's Byron Ritchie got into a fight with Oilers defenseman Steve Staios, and Ritchie received penalties for slashing, instigating and fighting along with a 10-minute misconduct. That left the Oilers with a four-minute man advantage, which Torres capped with his 13th goal on the season.

Van Ryn brought the Panthers within one at 14:20 of the second, but Pisani replied less than a minute later to restore Edmonton's two-goal lead.
